Max\u00edk and Majka were standing by the window and were gazing dreamily into the distance. Outside, it was snowing beautifully and freezing, and the frost was drawing pictures on the windows.
\u201cThat's wonderful,\u201d whispered Majka.
\u201cIt sure is,\u201d agreed Max.
\u201cWinter is beautiful.\u201d
\u201cDo you know what the worst thing about winter is?\u201d Max\u00edk breathed on the glass.
\u201cThat it's cold,\u201d Majka drew a heart on the fogged-up window.
\u201cSure, the worst thing about winter is that it's cold,\u201d laughed Max\u00edk, adding a teardrop and an arrow to the heart.
\u201cThen it's that it's not as cold as in the pictures,\u201d breathed Majka on the window.
\u201cThat's not even the worst part,\u201d said Max\u00edk, starting to draw some squiggles on the glass pane.
\u201cNo?\u201d
\u201cNo, because there are places where it's not that cold,\u201d and suddenly the squiggles turned into a snowstorm on the glass pane.
\u201cThat's true,\u201d Majka thought, and began to dream about something.
\u201cBut...\u201d Max\u00edk wanted to say something.
\u201cI know, it's because Ka\u0161ko doesn't come to see us every day,\u201d Majka found another answer.
\u201cYou know, even in the ghost world they have to shovel the snow,\u201d he added, drawing a sleigh on the glass pane.
\u201cHe told us that, but I don't really believe him because...\u201d
\u201cWhat don't you believe?\u201d came a voice from outside the window, and Ka\u0161ko appeared from behind the sleigh. Majka quickly opened the window and closed it again.
\u201cI can't even imagine snow in the ghost world,\u201d Majka finished.
\u201cBut I didn't tell you about that world.\u201d
\u201cWhere do you go to shovel the snow?\u201d
\u201cWe help little creatures that you humans don't understand,\u201d Ka\u0161ko explained.
\u201cLike what?\u201d Majka looked at Ka\u0161ko suspiciously.
\u201cAnimals, for example,\u201d said Ka\u0161ko, drawing a squirrel on the window.
\u201cOh, I got that,\u201d sighed Majka.
\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d Ka\u0161ko didn't understand.
\u201cThat's the saddest thing about winter.\u201d
\u201cAnimals,\u201d Majka thought.
\u201cBut not only that, but also that we can't go to the zoo park to see the animals, and that some castles and palaces are closed and...\u201d explained Max\u00edk, and Majka thought for a moment.
\u201cWhat do animals do at the zoo park when it's closed?\u201d
\u201cThe same thing they do when it's open, only there are no people there,\u201d Ka\u0161ko looked at Majka perplexed.
\u201cBut there are also animals that like people, aren't there?\u201d
\u201cSure, and there are quite a few of them, because most of the animals in the zoo are animals that would be in danger in the wild.\u201d
\u201cOh, and what do they do then?\u201d Majka wouldn't let Ka\u0161ko off the hook.
\u201cThey dream,\u201d Ka\u0161ko said mysteriously.
\u201cWhat do they do?\u201d Max\u00edk joined the conversation, because he couldn't quite figure it out.
\u201cThey dream,\u201d Ka\u0161ko repeated.
\u201cYou mean they sleep all day?\u201d Majka couldn't believe it and thought of animals that hibernate during the winter.
\u201cNo, they dream, like they dream... well... about cool things, and since they found out that people don't go to the zoo park in winter because it's Christmas, they dream even more,\u201d Ka\u0161ko tried to explain.
\u201cWhat do they dream about?\u201d Max\u00edk and Majka asked at the same time, not understanding.
\u201cAll animals dream about something different.\u201d
\u201cAnd do their dreams come true?\u201d
\u201cThat's why we go there,\u201d Ka\u0161ko blinked.
\u201cKa\u0161kooo,\u201d Majka began to beg.
\u201cYes?\u201d Ka\u0161ko perked up.
\u201cLet's go help some animals make their dreams come true,\u201d begged Majka.
\u201cUh, that's not a bad idea,\u201d Ka\u0161ko thought.
\u201cWe have a zoo park right around the corner, on the hill in Ko\u0161ice,\u201d Max\u00edk contributed.
\u201cHow about we go to a different zoo park?\u201d Ka\u0161ko suggested mischievously.
\u201cIs there another zoo park in Haravara?\u201d Max\u00edk wondered.
\u201cSure, let's get ready and dress warmly,\u201d said Ka\u0161ko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In no time, they were at the train station and took a train to Spi\u0161sk\u00e1 Nov\u00e1 Ves. As soon as they got off, they set off across the town, past the spire with two clocks, which is so tall and slender that you almost break your neck looking up at it.
\u201cIf you come here in the summer, you can meet various characters from history.\u201d
\u201cGhosts?\u201d the children's eyes lit up.
\u201cNo, living statues,\u201d smiled Ka\u0161ko.
\u201cOh, what's that?\u201d
\u201cThere's a festival of living statues here.\u201d
And by the time Ka\u0161ko had told them everything there was to see in Spi\u0161sk\u00e1 Nov\u00e1 Ves \u2013 such as LaborARTorium, an amazing place where you can explore how nature works, and the fantastic theatre in the city - they were standing in front of the zoo park gate.
\u201cHow do we get in?\u201d Max and Majka looked at the closed gate.
\u201cI'm not the ghost of Haravara for nothing, and you're not my friends for nothing,\u201d Ka\u0161ko began boastfully.
\u201cSo how?\u201d
\u201cLike this.\u201d
Ka\u0161ko pulled a small bottle out of his cloak.
\u201cWhat's this?\u201d
\u201cA shrinking potion.\u201d
\u201cWhat?\u201d cried both siblings.
\u201cIt's a plant that we have to guard in secret places.\u201d
\u201cWhy?\u201d asked Max and Majka more quietly.
\u201cBecause when you take it, you shrink so much that you can squeeze through any bars.\u201d
\"I see.\"
\u201cCan you imagine what would happen if all the pirates and bandits in the past and present knew about this?\u201d Ka\u0161ko looked at them with eyes that said no one must ever find out.
\u201cDon't even think about it,\u201d whispered Majka, imagining all the stories she had read about robbers and pirates.
Max\u00edk and Majka drank and felt very strange\u2014like lines in a notebook\u2014they stretched through the bars and found themselves in the zoo park. Luckily, the shrinking spell only lasts for five minutes.
\u201cSo, what animals shall we choose?\u201d Ka\u0161ko looked around the zoo park.
\u201cWhat would we find in the zoo park in Spi\u0161sk\u00e1?\u201d
\"For example, kangaroos, llamas, orangutans, camels, flamingos, emus, and of course lions, and cougars.\u201c
\u201dWow, and this is the smallest zoo park in Haravara?\u201c Majka and Max\u00edk's eyes widened.
\u201cUh-huh.\u201c
\u201dBut they do have quite a lot of animals here,\" thought Majka and Max\u00edk as they looked around to see which animal they would choose to make its dreams come true.
\u201cSo, where to?\u201d Ka\u0161ko rubbed his hands impatiently.
\u201cHow about we make the dreams of all the animals that don't live where it's cold and had to adapt to it come true?\u201d suggested Majka.
\u201cAs you say,\u201d Ka\u0161ko bowed like in an old movie and flew away.
\u201cBut how will we find out what they want?\u201d Max\u00edk stopped.
\u201cYou probably don't know this, but animals can usually speak human language.\u201d
\u201cWhaaaat?!\u201d Majka and Max\u00edk almost fell into the snow.
\u201cWhen children and adults are here, they don't want to reveal themselves because they would ask them all sorts of questions and shout even more and...\u201d explained Ka\u0161ko.
\u201cSo, they understand us too?\u201d the children were almost speechless with surprise.
\u201cOf course.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI want to see that,\u201d said Max\u00edk, not believing it.
\u201cGo up to the amphitheatre,\u201d Ka\u0161ko pointed to the amphitheatre in the small zoo park.
\u201cThey have an amphitheatre here?\u201d Majka didn't understand and immediately imagined what games could be played there.
\u201cOf course, where else would they organise all the performances and activities for children,\u201d Ka\u0161ko shook his head.
Max\u00edk and Majka hid at the top of the amphitheatre and looked at all the beautiful animals around them. As soon as Ka\u0161ko appeared, it began. The animals began to talk happily about what they had experienced and what had happened to them during the day. The kangaroo, for example, talked about how she was carrying hay in her pouch for her camel friends and started sneezing, so all the hay spilled out.
\u201cI think I'm allergic,\u201d sighed the camel.
\u201cThat's nothing, but I wanted to go into hibernation,\u201d began the bear.
\"Why aren't you in hibernation yet?\" asked Ka\u0161ko, who realised that the bear should have fallen asleep long ago.
\"Someone ate my honey,\" grumbled the bear angrily. \"And as you know, bears with empty stomachs don't sleep.\"
\"That's nothing,\" said the crane, tapping his beak. \"I just went out for a walk and didn't notice the ice on the road. I slipped and fell flat on my face and couldn't get up for three hours.\"
\u201cThat's great, guys, but you know why I'm here, right?\u201d
\u201cJust like every Christmas,\u201d the animals' eyes lit up.
\u201cThat's right. What dream can I make come true for you?\u201d Ka\u0161ko sat down on one of the walls.
\u201cKa\u0161ko,\u201d growled a lion from somewhere, \u201con behalf of all the animals, I want to tell you that our biggest dream is to dance at an animal dance gala.\u201d
\u201cWhat?\u201d Ka\u0161ko couldn't believe his ears.
\"Yes!\" Majka cried out involuntarily as she imagined the beauty of an animal dancing.
\"People,\" hissed the snake in the terrarium.
\"They heard us,\" said the crane in horror.
\"Don't worry. They're friends,\" Ka\u0161ko reassured the animals.
\"Friends?\" the animals looked at Max\u00edk and Majka.
\"Come here, you masters of hiding.\"
\"I'm sorry, but I really like the idea of an animal gala, and we've already organised one,\" Majka began as she and Max\u00edk came out of their hiding place.
\"Well, what if we found a place where we could do it?\" Ka\u0161ko's eyes lit up.
\"How are we going to get out of here?\" asked the grumbling bear, while the other animals looked at the newcomers.
\"That's a good question,\" thought Ka\u0161ko.
\u201cHoneysuckle,\u201d whispered Max\u00edk to Ka\u0161ko.
Ka\u0161ko took a few more honeysuckle leaves out of his pocket and offered them to the animals. They squeezed through the bars, and I must tell you, seeing a flattened bear, a puma, and a camel like that was quite a sight.
\u201cWhere are we going?\u201d asked the curious camel.
\u201cTo the only place where you can dance like in a castle and where animals can dance too,\u201d smiled Ka\u0161ko, watching the animals turn back into little lines.
\u201cAnd where is that?\u201d Majka and Max\u00edk were also curious.
\u201cAt Z\u00e1m\u010disko (castle ground),\u201d Ka\u0161ko chirped into the wind and flew ahead of the animals to show them the way.
After walking along the red trail for a while, they came to a meadow where there was a beautiful chapel and an obelisk, but no castle and certainly no castle grounds.
\u201cKa\u0161ko, but there's no castle or castle grounds here,\u201d whispered Majka so that the animals wouldn't hear her.
\u201cYou're standing on it.\u201d
\u201cWhat?\u201d the animals grumbled.
\u201cThe hill is called Z\u00e1m\u010disko,\u201d smiled Ka\u0161ko.
\u201cSo, you tricked us,\u201d the animals began to snort strangely, and the lion pulled his claws out of the snow.
\u201cNo, I didn't. There used to be a castle here where the most beautiful balls and dances I've ever seen were held, and I was at my Aunt Gertrude's ball in Vienna.\u201d
\u201cAnd this chapel?\u201d Max\u00edk pointed to a beautiful little chapel that looked like something out of a fairy tale.
\u201cThis chapel and the obelisk are the only things left of its former glory.\u201d
\u201cLook under the snow,\u201d said the bear, pointing under his paws.
Everyone looked down at the stones arranged.
\u201cHere are the outlines of the castle,\u201d Ka\u0161ko pointed. \u201cAnd this chapel is called the Thousand-Year Chapel.\u201d
\u201cIs it a thousand years old?\u201d asked Aunt Owl, who had joined the animals, nodding appreciatively.
\u201cNo, but there was a chapel here a thousand years ago, and this chapel was built in its place.\u201d
\u201cIt's really beautiful,\u201d said Majka's little soul, once again finding something to admire.
\u201cAnd that obelisk?\u201d asked the camel, remembering similar ones she had seen in Egypt, where she had lived before.
\"It was part of the castle, and imagine, it burned down completely, and a few years ago they restored it so that everyone could remember how beautiful it used to be. There used to be a small castle or rather a summer palace here.\"
\u201cA summer palace?\u201d
\u201cWell, a place for the \u010c\u00e1ky family to spend the summer, where the most beautiful and elegant balls were held.\u201d
\u201cI see,\u201d said Majka, already imagining it.
\u201cAnd they called it Sans Souci,\u201d said Ka\u0161ko, wanting to continue with the story...
\u201cKa\u0161ko,\u201d said the lion.
\u201cYes, Your Majesty?\u201d
\u201cIt's really beautiful here.\u201d
\u201cIt is.\u201d
\u201cI can imagine coming here to relax and have a barbecue in the summer or just think about life...\"
\u201cBut?\u201d Ka\u0161ko interrupted them.
\u2018But we came here to dance,\" several animals cried out at once.
\"I'm sorry, I completely forgot,\" admitted Ka\u0161ko. \"Christmas dreams must come true.\"
He muttered something into the wind, and suddenly, beautifully dressed ghosts with musical instruments appeared and began to play, and the animals began to show off their dances.
It was beautiful and funny at the same time.
The kangaroo jumped with a snake, the lion danced on the flamingo's legs, and the camel had two jumping monkeys on its humps. And of course, as the band played familiar melodies, the animals accompanied them with squeaking, whistling, and croaking, and the donkey just brayed.
The animals played to their hearts' content, and after a while, Majka and Max\u00edk joined them. They danced with all the animals they liked and then returned to the zoo park.
When they returned, they heard faint crying or sobbing. They searched for the source of the crying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"It's behind that door,\" cried Majka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"I think I know,\" whispered Ka\u0161ko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018What do you know?\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the aquaterium.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat's that?\u201c Max\u00edk and Majka looked at the door in confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt's part of the Spi\u0161sk\u00e1 Nov\u00e1 Ves Zoo where the fish are,\u201c explained Ka\u0161ko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDid we forget them?\u201c The other animals tapped their foreheads with their hooves, wings and paws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot you, but me,\u201c admitted Ka\u0161ko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat now?\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe still have a little time, so let's ask them what they're dreaming about.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fish, like the animals, began to talk as soon as the last human disappeared from their vicinity. And so, when they saw Ka\u0161ko, they immediately complained that he had forgotten about them again and...<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOkay, okay, I'm sorry. I promise I'll grant you the craziest wish you can think of.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to slide and sledge on a rainbow,\u201c said the fish, and fell silent, like fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018On a rainbow, now?\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMhm,\u201c the fish sang softly between their teeth and lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ka\u0161ko almost fainted, but suddenly a mischievous smile appeared on his face. Max\u00edk and Majka already knew that smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Let's go!\" The children waited for this command after his smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut we can't walk, didn't you notice?\u201d the fish added, almost offended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut you can fly, can't you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat?\u201d the fish opened their mouths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ka\u0161ko dipped a kind of magic wand with some herbs into the water and the fish's fins turned into wings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ka\u0161ko took Max\u00edk and Majka and they flew away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhere are we flying?\u201d Majka asked casually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo the rainbow,\u201d Ka\u0161ko smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"To heaven?\" asked several fish eagerly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Slovak Paradise is not far away.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"And is there a rainbow there now?\" the fish began to rejoice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"And not just any rainbow,\" added Ka\u0161ko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"What kind?\" the fish almost stopped flying out of curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne that drinks water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"What?\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ka\u0161ko flew away, followed by the fish, laughing loudly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They flew to a hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDear fish and dear children, this is a rainbow,\u201d said Ka\u0161ko, and the fish opened their mouths and were speechless, just like Majka and Max\u00edk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut it's a wooden rainbow!\u201d They suspected that Ka\u0161ko was playing a trick on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt's a work of art,\u201d he said, tapping the wooden rainbow standing on the hill. \u201cAnd did you know that you can go inside it and walk across it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut it's not a rainbow,\u201d said several fish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"It's a work of art made of wood and it's called The Rainbow that Drinks Water.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKa\u0161ko, you tricked us a little,\u201d said the flying fish, looking at Ka\u0161ko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI didn't trick you, it's a rainbow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is,\u201d the fish had to admit, flapping their fins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd is there snow on it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes,\u201d laughed Majka, amused by Ka\u0161ko's idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd I brought you sleds and cushions for sliding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, the fish felt a little cheated, but then the clown fish was the first to slide down the rainbow on its tail, and so it began. It was the craziest fun Majka and Max\u00edk had ever seen \u2013 fish sledding and sliding on a rainbow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen you come here in spring or summer, you can relax by this rainbow and use it as a lookout tower and a shelter from the wind,\u201d Ka\u0161ko showed the rainbow to the children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"It's beautiful!\" shouted Majka as she whizzed around the rainbow on her sled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"It's land art,\" Ka\u0161ko showed off with some fancy words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"What?\" Max\u00edk stopped on his seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"It's a kind of art in the countryside.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it was time to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fish, Ka\u0161ko, Max\u00edk and Majka flew away, each to their own home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Majka got home, she couldn't sleep - she played quietly on her imaginary guitar and composed a song about the rainbow on Ko\u0161iarny Brie\u017eok.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
