Start your trip in the village of Kováčová near Rožňava in the Gemer Region, where you will discover the story of a water mill that has been preserved in an almost undamaged condition. Its ample interior, functional mill wheel, and hemp breaker will interest not only children. The mill also includes a small snack bar where you can sit and enjoy your coffee or a coke in pleasant surroundings. From Kováčová it is only a short walk to the Hussite small church that you may visit. It is shrouded in various stories, but only some of them are true. Every trip should end sweetly and deliciously, and a visit to the medieval Granary will give you just the right ending to your trip.
A water mill can be found in the picturesque village of Kováčová. From the main road, at the bus stop, turn left onto a side road. The water mill is located approximately 50 metres from the bus stop. You can park your car at the mill.
Then move to the village of Lúčka, which is about 5 minutes by car from Kováčová. The church is located on a hill at the upper end of the village. From the road, there are paved stairs and a walkway that will take you to the cemetery. Continue walking until you reach the church.
The village of Jablonov nad Turňou, where the Granary is located, is a 20-minute drive away. Turn right off the main road, continue along a side road for about a kilometre until you come to the Granary. You can park your car at the Granary complex. You will need to make an appointment to visit the Granary.
As children know, grain grows in the field, flour is ground from it, and the flour is used to bake bread and cakes. However, do we know how a real water mill works? Why does it need water and how do its gears work? All curious questions will be answered by the owner of the reconstructed water mill, which once served the famous Andrássy family from the Krásna Hôrka Castle.
A beautiful panoramic view of the surroundings is offered on the magical hill above the village of Lúčka. It is best observed from the stone defensive wall of the preserved ruins of the Hussite small church. During World War I, the church partially burned down and, unfortunately, it has never been rebuilt.
There was a granary in Jablonov nad Turňou as early as in the Middle Ages, where grain and many other products were stored and handed over to sovereign from whatever was harvested and produced. Today it is a place of rest. A family farm with a vineyard, a guest house and its own restaurant guarantee a perfect gastronomic experience. And that is not all! Children will find a little snail house, swings, slides, and unlimited space for running and frolicking in the fairy-tale kingdom.
